Established in Peru, Illinois almost 50 years ago, Chapman's Mechanical Systems is a multi-generational family operation that evolved from a sheet metal specialist into a comprehensive mechanical contractor.
The Chapman's story began in 1976, when Bill and Judy Chapman bought Peru Sheet Metal Company, later changing the name to Chapman’s Sheet Metal. In 1995, the company expanded service to include commercial and residential plumbing and changed the name to Chapman’s Mechanical Systems, Inc. to reflect this. In 2010, the company built a new headquarters in Peru, which they still call home.

Today, Chapman’s Mechanical Systems employs a team of 21 people and offers commercial and residential HVACR and plumbing installation and service out of their LaSalle County shop. Bill and Judy Chapman’s son, Bob Chapman, currently serves as president of the company. He started full-time there in 1992 as an estimator and project manager, with a fresh Local 1 membership card, and worked his way up to the top over the past 30 years. Bob’s son, Tanner, joined the company in 2015 and worked his way up to his current role as vice president.
Bob is proud Chapman’s Mechanical Systems, Inc. continues to be a family business, and he’s proud of the work they do. “We’re small enough to provide great customer service and large enough to handle the commercial jobs that present themselves in our community," he says.
Chapman's recently completed a large heating and ventilation project at Peru’s James Hardie Building Products. They’re currently providing nearby NanoChem Solutions with stainless steel ductwork and HVAC systems for a new product line, as well as tackling projects for local schools.
Chapman’s community involvement goes beyond their trade work. Each year the company donates time to the local United Way Labor of Love program, which provides essential home repairs to people in need in the community. Bob says the company also regularly makes charitable donations to the Illinois Valley YMCA and the LaSalle-Peru Schools.
